ACMS (African Caribbean Medical Society)
ACMS is a society set up to provide a supportive platform for students studying Medicine, Biomedical Science and other healthcare courses within the University of Birmingham (UoB).
Over recent years, there has been a steady increase in the number of African-Caribbean students within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences at UoB, and the need for such a platform has been well overdue. Hence being the very first society of its kind in our institution, ACMS has been built with 4 primary aims:
1. To unite the population of African-Caribbean healthcare students at UoB and establish a supportive community.
2. To improve representation by showcasing the existing diversity, as well as celebrating the achievements of African-Caribbean students and professionals within the healthcare sector.
3. To provide aspiring and current African-Caribbean students with specialty-specific resources and a professional network needed to boost future career prospects.
4. To inspire and influence the younger generation of African-Caribbean students. We hope that by showcasing diversity, we will be able to better present studying healthcare courses at UoB as a viable option for prospective students.
